<p>When two people move in together, it happens that two lives and two households are mixed together. But what if one doesn’t like the couch of the other one or finds it even ugly? When the Berlin gallery owner Anna Jill Lüpertz and the artist Markus Keibel met each other eight years ago and shortly afterwards decided to create a shared home in Anna’s 170 square meters flat in an old building, there was no approach for a discussion. ART-piece, the apartment was literally empty.</p>
<div id="attachment_3317" style="width: 660px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3317" class="wp-image-3317 size-large" src="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_4763_1-1024x678.jpg" alt="IMG_4763_1" width="650" height="430" srcset="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_4763_1-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_4763_1-453x300.jpg 453w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_4763_1-800x530.jpg 800w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_4763_1-150x99.jpg 150w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/IMG_4763_1.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /><p id="caption-attachment-3317" class="wp-caption-text">Markus Keibel and Anna Jill Lüpertz</p></div>
<p><strong>Anna Jill Lüpertz: </strong>When I moved in I had nothing except for a bed and a couch.<br />
<strong>Markus Keibel:</strong> And I brought things that were missing. This has been a good supplement.<br />
<strong>MyStylery:</strong> Are you always so harmonious?<br />
<strong>AJL:</strong> Mostly (laughs). The Farrow &amp; Ball-wallpaper in the corridor still comes from the predecessor. We didn’t remove it, because we couldn’t decide on a wall color. I love colors like the one in the living room, a mixture out of old silk and DDR-anteroom-optic.<br />
<strong>MK:</strong> True, every color is being discussed. I wished myself at least one white room. Nevertheless I was able to assert myself in the kitchen. Basically Anna likes to have more, I like to have less.</p>
<div id="attachment_3322" style="width: 660px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3322" class="wp-image-3322 size-large" src="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-5-1024x576.jpg" alt="My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory (5)" width="650" height="366" srcset="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-5-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-5-533x300.jpg 533w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-5-800x450.jpg 800w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-5-150x84.jpg 150w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-5.jpg 1440w" sizes="(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /><p id="caption-attachment-3322" class="wp-caption-text">Right on the wall the Neon-Installation ’I‘ by Pietro Sanguineti</p></div>
<p><strong>MS: </strong>More or less of what?<br />
<strong>AJL:</strong> I love small things and so called bits and bots. For example I can’t have enough of vases! Markus always puts everything away and believes that I won’t notice it. It’s important to him, that everything is clear, clean and tidy.<br />
<strong>MK:</strong> For me it’s quality before quantity. And that the things tell a story. After the end of the war, the empire-secretary has been pulled through whole Western Pomerania in a handcart by my grandmother. It accompanied me like the banana-plant throughout my whole life.<br />
<strong>AJL:</strong> The other plants we purchased together. Markus got the green thumb.</p>
<div id="attachment_3321" style="width: 545px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3321" class="wp-image-3321" src="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-4-685x1024.jpg" alt="My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory (4)" width="535" height="800" srcset="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-4-685x1024.jpg 685w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-4-201x300.jpg 201w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-4-401x600.jpg 401w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-4-100x150.jpg 100w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-4.jpg 810w" sizes="(max-width: 535px) 100vw, 535px" /><p id="caption-attachment-3321" class="wp-caption-text">At her eleventh birthday Anna got portrayed by the big A.R. Penck and gave it to her afterwards. Above the house-bar on an antique sewing table, in which Anna still stores needle and thread</p></div>
<p><strong>MS: </strong>What is important to both of you in your home?<br />
<strong>AJL:</strong> To me, the bed is the most important place. This is where I work, here I live. And books…<br />
<strong>MK:</strong> … Exactly. Our books are our joint smorgasbord. I find apartments without books disconcerting. This is also an expression of quality of life.</p>
<div id="attachment_3320" style="width: 545px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3320" class="wp-image-3320" src="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-3-701x1024.jpg" alt="My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory (3)" width="535" height="781" srcset="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-3-701x1024.jpg 701w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-3-205x300.jpg 205w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-3-411x600.jpg 411w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-3-103x150.jpg 103w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-3.jpg 810w" sizes="(max-width: 535px) 100vw, 535px" /><p id="caption-attachment-3320" class="wp-caption-text">After the end of the war, Markus grandmother moved the antique secretary in a small wagon hundreds of kilometers</p></div>
<p><strong>MS: </strong>Do you always agree on art or are there different points of views?<br />
<strong>AJL:</strong> When I met Markus, I was afraid, that his art could be bad trash. Then I secretly googled him and was totally relieved afterwards.<br />
<strong>MK:</strong> I’m concept-artist; this is the contrary of what influenced Anna in her childhood by the art of her father. Art is a new issue of attitude, not of the taste. <span style="font-size: 10pt;"><strong>BvH</strong></span></p>
<div id="attachment_3325" style="width: 660px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3325" class="wp-image-3325 size-large" src="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-8-1024x576.jpg" alt="My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory (8)" width="650" height="366" srcset="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-8-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-8-533x300.jpg 533w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-8-800x450.jpg 800w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-8-150x84.jpg 150w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/My_Stylery_Anna_Lüpertz_Homestory-8.jpg 1440w" sizes="(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /><p id="caption-attachment-3325" class="wp-caption-text">On the commode you can see Anna’s vase collection, above A.R. Marcus Deschler had the courage and, since then, lives in one of the most popular streets of the capital. He conceived a big old building flat out of three flats, refurbished the filigree stucco, the beautiful oak-inlaid-parquet and heavy brass doorknobs. Its center is made off a perfect equipped stainless steel kitchen, because the head of house is a passionate amateur chef.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Who enters the commodious flat in the old building of Diana Countess of Hohenthal and Bergen and Haralampi Oroschakoff, resorts himself on a time journey and douses into the history of two aristocratic families: there are nearly no objects that do not tell a significant story. The Countess, who was born in Munich, whose family was appointed by Prince Friedrich August I. of Saxony into the earldom back in the sixteenth century, was raised in the Bavarian baroque castle Maxlrain. The Austrian Haralampi is descended from the old Russian noble family of the Bojaren Haralamow, that can be followed back to the eleventh century. Since 15 years the gallery owner and the international successful artist – whose pieces are exhibited by prominent figures like singer Vicky Leandros, designer Jette Joop or Princess Firyal of Jordan &#8211; live in Berlin with their children.</p>
<div id="attachment_1365" style="width: 587px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1365" class="wp-image-1365" src="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1220_1.jpg" alt="SAM_1220_1" width="577" height="800" srcset="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1220_1.jpg 739w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1220_1-217x300.jpg 217w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1220_1-433x600.jpg 433w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1220_1-108x150.jpg 108w" sizes="(max-width: 577px) 100vw, 577px" /><p id="caption-attachment-1365" class="wp-caption-text">The gallery owner Diana Countess of Hohenthal with her husband, the artist and author Haralampi G. Oroschakoff in their Berlin apartment</p></div>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>MyStylery:</strong> Apparently you love the change: this apartment is already your third home in Berlin.<br />
<strong>Diana von Hohenthal:</strong> The last apartment was too small &#8211; we needed more space. Now we are here for two years and feel very well. And we remained faithful to the old structures, a newly constructed building will never be an option.</p>
<div id="attachment_1358" style="width: 507px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1358" class="wp-image-1358" src="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1145_1.jpg" alt="SAM_1145_1" width="497" height="800" srcset="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1145_1.jpg 636w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1145_1-186x300.jpg 186w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1145_1-373x600.jpg 373w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1145_1-93x150.jpg 93w" sizes="(max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px" /><p id="caption-attachment-1358" class="wp-caption-text">The Vintage Versace chair comes from the Versace gallery in Fasanenstraße in Berlin and was bartered by art. In the back a baroque chest and the view to the study</p></div>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>MS: </strong>Where does your passion for old constructions come from?<strong><br />
DvH: </strong>I usually perceive newly constructed buildings as too sterile; I could never live in a puristic apartment. As I was raised in a castle with 150 rooms I need a lot of space, high ceilings and air to breath.</p>
<div id="attachment_1356" style="width: 1034px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1356" class="wp-image-1356 size-full" src="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1140_1.jpg" alt="SAM_1140_1" width="1024" height="576" srcset="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1140_1.jpg 1024w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1140_1-533x300.jpg 533w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1140_1-800x450.jpg 800w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1140_1-150x84.jpg 150w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><p id="caption-attachment-1356" class="wp-caption-text">The painting &#8220;attack&#8221; by Friedrich Fehr (1918), in front of a shaman rod of Kazakhstan by the people of Or&#8217;schak</p></div>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>MS:</strong> Haralampi, you were raised as a son of a fabricant in Vienna and Cannes. And you still spend half of the year at the Cote d’Azur…<br />
<strong>Haralampi G. Oroschakoff:</strong> The life in Cannes and the view over the ocean are my elixir of life. Down south is a whole other creativity, which is mainly because of the light. Cannes is the core of the whole family.</p>
<div id="attachment_1357" style="width: 507px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1357" class="wp-image-1357" src="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1142_1.jpg" alt="SAM_1142_1" width="497" height="800" srcset="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1142_1.jpg 636w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1142_1-186x300.jpg 186w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1142_1-373x600.jpg 373w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1142_1-93x150.jpg 93w" sizes="(max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px" /><p id="caption-attachment-1357" class="wp-caption-text">The chandellier in the dining room is Art Deco from Vienna</p></div>

Art Deco chairs invite you to leisurely browse</p></div>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>MS: </strong>Here you immediately notice especially the oriental details and colourful walls.<strong><br />
HGO: </strong>The walls in my workroom are red, red is so inspiring. The dining hall is turkeys and the salon always peach-colored. Yet it has always been like this in all our apartments…<strong><br />
DvH: </strong>We put everything together which we got, including heirlooms like the baroque commode in the salon or the oriental-artist carpet. That is how the mix of old and new, modern and antique came up.</p>
<div id="attachment_1353" style="width: 580px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1353" class="wp-image-1353" src="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1127_1_1.jpg" alt="SAM_1127_1_1" width="570" height="800" srcset="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1127_1_1.jpg 730w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1127_1_1-214x300.jpg 214w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1127_1_1-428x600.jpg 428w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1127_1_1-107x150.jpg 107w" sizes="(max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px" /><p id="caption-attachment-1353" class="wp-caption-text">&#8220;Polis / Republican gardens&#8221; of Haralampi Oroschakoff G. <p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>MS:</strong> Do you always agree in terms of interior?<strong><br />
HGO: </strong>Usually. But we have different perspectives in terms of tidiness. Diana tends to build heaps and thinks it is comfortable…<strong><br />
DVH:</strong> … and on the contrary for you; nothing should be weird, not even the ashtray.<strong><br />
HGO: </strong>That is how my inner system demands it. (laughs)</p>
<div id="attachment_1354" style="width: 440px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1354" class="wp-image-1354" src="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1129_1.jpg" alt="SAM_1129_1" width="430" height="800" srcset="https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1129_1.jpg 550w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1129_1-161x300.jpg 161w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1129_1-322x600.jpg 322w, https://mystylery.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SAM_1129_1-81x150.jpg 81w" sizes="(max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px" /><p id="caption-attachment-1354" class="wp-caption-text">A painting of the South Russian School (17th century): Patron saint and namesake of the entire family of the Bojaren Haralamov-Oreschak</p></div>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>MS: </strong>All those paintings in a flat of an artist is not a surprise really. Interesting is, that the pieces mainly come from other painters. Do you need the space to your own work?<strong><br />
DvH: </strong>Not necessarily. There are still some of Haralampis paintings, like the triptych „Russia – Death of Cleopatra – Byzantium” in the dining room that Haralampi gave me.<strong><br />
HGO: </strong>The paintings of our Petersburg hanging in the kitchen are presents from Rosi Trockel, George Condo, Michel Würthle or Pascha Pepperstein. We do also exchange paintings amongst ourselves as a sign of respect and appreciation. And that is a good thing, otherwise there would only be distinction and intrigues left. (laughs)</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>MS: </strong>What would you do without in housing design?<strong><br />
HGO: </strong>As a writer an apartment without books would be unacceptable. There would also always be a place for my favorite piece, a Russian icon, which tells the story of the holy Haralampi – Charlampii, after which the Oreschak progeny were named. This name only exists in my family.<strong><br />
DvH: </strong>Art is a must. To me, artless rooms are a little bleak. It is strange enough that pictures usually hang too high or they are crooked. Thereby it is so easy to position a painting properly: a hammer, a bubble level and two nails. Done!  <span style="font-size: 10pt;"><strong>BvH</strong></span></p>
